About the role
As Yard Manager, you'll lead a team of operators and site staff to ensure all yard activities from material intake to transport are carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with regulatory and company standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
· Managing daily yard operations across equipment, labour, and material movement
· Ensuring strict compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements
· Leading, mentoring, and supporting yard staff to achieve performance goals
· Overseeing procurement, intake and classification of scrap materials (ferrous and non-ferrous)
· Working closely with transport teams to coordinate dispatch and loadout
· Monitoring site productivity, identifying improvement opportunities, and reducing waste
· Supporting budgeting, cost tracking, and reporting
To be successful, you will possess the following
· Demonstrated experience in yard, plant, or operations management within recycling, logistics, or heavy industry (highly desirable)
· Strong knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, including processing and classification
· Solid understanding of WHS regulations, including Chain of Responsibility compliance
· Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage, mentor, and develop high-performing teams
· Proficient in MS Office and yard management systems, with strong reporting and planning capabilities
· Detail-oriented, resilient under pressure, and committed to continuous improvement and safety excellence
